Sasha Pieterse's health journey is public. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) has plagued the Pretty Little Liars star since her teens and while playing Alison DiLaurentis on the ABC family show.
"This is part of the health issues that I was speaking of while I was going through Pretty Little Liars," Sasha told The Squeeze podcast Aug. 9.
"So when I mean it was documented, it was like, the changes that were happening to me were documented on camera."
"I never had a regular period ever and I was just always told by gynecologists that I was just young," the 27-year-old explained. "'Don't worry, it'll regulate.'"
"When I turned, it was probably around 15-16, that I started noticing a difference in just my metabolism in general," she said. I gained 70 pounds at 17. No explanation."were in theaters.
Despite visiting "over 15 gynecologists," some of whom blamed her for her weight increase, Sasha felt she wasn't being heard and wanted her blood tested.
"It was the most frustrating experience and disheartening because no matter what I did, no matter how well I behaved, no matter how great I treated my body, things were actually getting worse rather than better, it was very very confusing," she told hosts Taylor Lautner and wife Tay Lautner.
"Someone suggested I see an endocrinologist after a long process." The doctor then diagnosed Sasha with PCOS and ordered a blood test. Sasha didn't know about PCOS before her incident.
